Don't Take a Vacation!
by Rev. Jay Wolf

I have always loved summer. School is closed and the pools are open.
Refreshing, ruby-red, ice cold watermelon! Fishing. Cookouts. Shorts and T-shirts. Excursions to the beach, lake and mountains. Summer is a wonderful time to slow down, relax and rejuvenate...it is the time for vacations.

However, don’t take a vacation from walking with God and serving His purpose. Don’t take a vacation from daily and weekly worship. Don’t take a vacation from studying God’s word and
interceding for this broken world. Don’t take a vacation from faithful stewardship and service. After all, these spiritual basics are not a burden but a blessing that creates perennial refreshment.

May God re-calibrate you this summer as you take some time out while staying spiritually tuned in. What’s more, remember that God never takes a vacation from you. “God is faithful. Through whom you are called into fellowship with His Son, Christ Jesus, our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:9)

LESSON PREVIEW
If you have not had a chance to get
your summer quarter lesson book,
This week's lesson comes from
Joshua 1:1-9
It's Time to Lead: Be Strong and Courageous!

At this time in our church's history, we face one of the most difficult challenges in discerning God's will as He selects our next leader. When you hear the word "leader," what face or name comes to your mind? An entrepreneur? A CEO? A pastor? A coach? A General?

Let me add one more entry to that list: YOU. No, I have not passed your resume to the search committee, but I do know that each of you is capable of leading. Each of us is a leader at some point and God has called or will call each to step forward at any given moment.

What's that? You don't know how to lead!

The Bible is full of leaders. Jesus provided the greatest example of "servant leadership" and left an excellent plan to follow. For the next 6 weeks, we will follow one of the greatest model's of leadership in the "servant of Moses," Joshua. Throughout the book of Joshua, God gives a blueprint of how to be godly and effective leaders.

Think of the leadership role God has given you. Picture in your mind the faces of the people you lead, influence, encourage, and inspire. Open your heart to what God can do with available
servants and leaders like YOU. Be the leader God desires you to be!!!!

Delayed Thank You

This is a story I should have told 7 months ago (Nov 2014).

I was returning from Pachuca, Mexico after doing an accreditation review of the American School of Pachuca. As always when you fly in the south, I had a connecting flight in Atlanta at Concourse D and a 3 hour layover.

After making it to Concourse D, I immediately looked for food since the in flight peanuts were no longer sticky to my backbone. I saw Famous Famiglia Pizza and thought it would be nice to have some pepperoni pizza. After standing in the "herd" line, I ordered two slices and sweet tea (no sweet tea in Mexico). I paid and then moved to the side for napkins and lemon. I gathered it all together and found a place to sit down, but it was in another area from Famous Famiglia Pizza.

The pizza was customary for airport fast food and the service had been customary (moving you through as quick as possible). I finished my two course meal. I then needed to find a rest room since the current tea had activated the small in flight soft drink. I used the facilities and leisurely moved to my departure gate, occasionally stopping to view the incredible prices on some merchandise.

As I approached my gate waiting area, a young lady in a uniform stepped up to me and questionably called my name. I was amazed that she knew my name. I immediately thought to myself, "I am being upgraded to first class." Then, I remember that I am going to Dothan and on the "regional jets" it is all first class. I responded back in my polite southern drawl, "Yes ma'am."

She introduced herself as Tamara Granger and she worked for Famous Famiglia Pizza. Then I thought, "I am receiving pizza for a year from Famous Famiglia Pizza." She continued to tell me that she found my wallet by the napkins and lemons section of the counter (better than pizza for a year). I further learned that she found my luggage claim ticket in my wallet.
She had contacted Delta to inquire about my flight to Dothan. She found the departure gate for my flight and had been waiting (20 minutes) for me to arrive. Immediately, everything went through my mind about what life would have been like if some other person had found my wallet.

To say the least, my eyes were sweating on the inside. She asked for me to confirm and make sure everything was there. Everything was there. I asked if I could give her a reward. She refused. I asked if I could make a donation to her favorite charity. She again refused. She said, "Just make sure you keep up with it." and she hurried off down the concourse. I then turned to the window and with tears in my eyes, I praised God for people like Tamara Granger.

So, if you are in the Atlanta Airport, Concourse D and you are hungry, go by Famous Famiglia Pizza and give them some business. I don't know if Tamara is still working there, but if they hire people like her, then I will gladly give them my business.
